I am glad to see that the Pope has made it clear to Nancy Pelosi that Catholic legislators have a particular responsibility to uphold and further the rights of all, from conception to natural death.
Ms Pelosi, like all those who use their faith as a political badge but pick and choose which bits of it they actually adhere to, strikes me as hypocritical.
If you don't believe it, stop pretending.

Amen to that. I had similar feelings a while back about the Labour deputy leadership candidate Jon Cruddas who traded to a lesser degree on his Catholic upbringing but completely disagreed with the Church's teaching on homosexuality. Interestingly, the Universe newspaper omitted to mention that salient fact when touting him as a "Catholic".
Off-topic: congrats on your little tussle on Holy Smoke with TBW the other day - particularly amused that you squeezed an admission from that supporter of the spirit of Vatican II that he hadn't catually read the documents. Much chortling here. In my experience the only Catholics who've bothered to read them are of a traditionalist persuasion!
