Bad Parenting Award No. 365, 321

We've just been for a lovely walk in the country, and ... I allowed Dominique to skate on a frozen pond!

Not only that, it was pre-meditated - we had taken her skates.

And I allowed Charlie to slide around on it in his wellies (and did the same myself).

Don't some people realise that every year, people fall through ice and... (cont  on p. 53)

RC: Indeed. Clearly my secret (probably unconscious) hope is that some vigilant social worker will spot the dangers to which I expose my children, understand that it is a cry for help and that we are unable to cope, and remove them into 'care'...

Ha, ha - for that to happen you have to be caught admonishing your children.

Well, I'd never do that... Why, it might damage their self-esteem!

But the kids were planning to distract me by making the dog run off, then make a hole in the ice with a rock, leave a solitary glove by it and run and hide.

However, they realised that they couldn't break the ice however hard they tried...
