Attachment to or antipathy towards the traditional Latin Mass does not often sit in a vacuum. There is, alas, a political dimension to all this.
On one extreme are those modernisers who seem to think that the Church started with the Second Vatican Council.
For these, the old Mass is a call to arms against their whole project.
On the other extreme are those traditionalists who seem to think that the Church ended with the Second Vatican Council.
For these, the old Mass is a call to arms against the whole project.
And from that dichotomy, much of the antipathy tends to arise.
